Targeting tough ambient conditions such as dirt, vibrations, or extreme temperatures,Pepperl+Fuchs designed its ENA58IL and ENA36IL magnetic absolute rotary encoders to deliver high precision and resolution as well as an extremely durable, compact design. To achieve this, the design adds a Wiegand sensor to a two-axis Hall sensor. The Halls sensor measures changes in the magnetic field allowing the angular measurement to be generated by the encoder electronics. The Wiegand sensor turns these single-turn absolute rotary encoders into multi-turn absolute rotary encoders. The 14-bit Hall sensors with optimized magnet technology and special software modifications permit accuracies of up to 0.1° with single turn resolutions up to 16 bit and multi-turn resolutions up to 16 bit.
