Panasonic has acquired Arimo, a California company specializing in deep learning and behavioral artificial intelligence technology.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Arimo develops Internet-of-Things and artificial intelligent products for commercial and manufacturing applications. Panasonic, which aggregates sensor data from factories, housing, cold-chain and HVAC, plans to capitalize on Arimo’s data science expertise, according toan Oct. 23 news release.
Arimo, which was founded in 2013, developed data analytics used in deep learning that provides Panasonic with a core data science element for artificial intelligence products provided to business-to-business customers, Panasonic Chief Technology Officer Yoshiyuki Miyabe said.
In 2014, Arimo completed a $13 million Series A round of funding provided by Andreessen Horowitz, a California venture capital firm.
In September,The Robot Report reportedthat Panasoniccreated a 3D sensor to detect direction, distance and the floor to assist mobile robots that move autonomously.The 3D LiDAR sensor uses laser-scanning designed to sense moving objects like people to enable robots to avoid them as well as detect the floor and ground surface conditions.
