Drones might help find resources on the arid plains of Mars. The Extreme Access Flyer drones built at NASA’s Swamp Works laboratory are designed to fly in an extremely thin atmosphere or no atmosphere at all, using gas jets instead of rotors to push themselves along.

Making drones could get you a career at NASA, but there’s another way too: make video games. Companies like NASA and SpaceX look for game designers to solve engineering and design puzzles. They’re keeping an eye on the Indie Galactic Space Jam in particular, a game jam held on Aug. 14-16 that includes engineers and aerospace leaders acting as mentors to designers creatingspace-themedgames.

This Air Force Workshop Is Like and Engineering Operating Theater

At home, you might be content with a wrench and an oily rag to fix up your car. But that doesn’t cut it for Air Force mechanics. Here, members of the 23rd Component Maintenance Squadron Propulsion Flight perform maintenance on a TF-34 engine in spotless surroundings. The engine will find its way into a Moody AFB’s A-10C Thunderbolt IIs …

NASA is building prospecting drones to look for resources on Mars

Some of the crater walls are angled 30 degrees or more, and that’s far too steep for a traditional rover to navigate and climb.” These craft could be used to look for water-ice, says NASA, carrying small soil samples back to a lander for analysis, where they could also top up their batteries and propellant …

Why NASA, SpaceX are interested in Florida game developers

Video games’ top priority may be to entertain the player, but for space industry leaders and engineers, those games could be the key to addressing important aerospace problems and finding the right talent to solve them. “A lot of companies hire video game talent,” said Kunal Patel, CEO of Orlando game development company Phyken Media …
