MSC Software Corporation has awarded three of its most senior technologists – Jean-Pierre Coyette, Jim McConville, and Ted Wertheimer – the rarely bestowed rank of MSC Technical Fellow for their contributions to computer-aided engineering.

Coyette, McConville, and Wertheimer earned MSC Technical Fellow distinction, the company’s highest technical rank, through extraordinary achievement in acoustic simulation, structural dynamics, modeling, finite element analysis, multi-body dynamics and non-linear analysis. Technical Fellow status is given by MSC’s technical executives to honor five technology and leadership qualities:

  • technical knowledge and judgment;
  • creative problem solving and innovation;
  • technical leadership, advising and consulting;
  • capability as a teacher and mentor; and
  • technical vision.

Jean-Pierre Coyette, Ph.D., is one of the industry’s leading authorities on numerical simulation of noise and vibration problems. He initiated and guided the development of the acoustic computer-aided engineering (CAE) software SYSNOISE. Later, he co-founded Free Field Technologies (now an MSC Software company) with Jean-Louis Migeot and began development of Actran acoustic CAE software. Since then, he has built Actran into one of the industry’s most widely used acoustic simulation solutions. Coyette is widely published in technical journals on topics including boundary element and finite/infinite element formulations.

Jim McConville has pioneered many of the modeling techniques used by MSC customers today in combining finite element analysis and multi-body dynamics to solve previously insoluble problems. He was one of the first to recognize the potential of multi-body dynamics in the aerospace, machinery, defense and consumer goods industries, and has guided myriad commercial projects to groundbreaking achievement.

Ted Wertheimer, Ph.D., has a long track record in advancing the field of nonlinear technology through research and product development. His work has focused on finite element development, specifically material nonlinearities, manufacturing and thermal sciences. He is one of the core inventors of MSC’s Marc application. Wertheimer has been at the forefront of creatively applying nonlinear technologies to solve complex simulation problems, and has provided endless hours of guidance to colleagues, end-users, researchers and educators in its applications.

“Jean-Pierre, Jim, and Ted represent an extraordinary range of accomplishment that extends far beyond their own work to inspiring others to excel,” said MSC Software President and CEO Dominic Gallello. “These individuals have not only had a great impact on MSC and our users, they have all had a tremendous impact on our industry.”
