The Hybrid Electric Business Unit of Parker Hannifin Corporation launched its new EHP (electro-hydraulic pump) System at the opening of MINExpo International in Las Vegas. The EHP System, which combines a high-efficiency permanent magnet AC (PMAC) motor/generator and high-performance mobile inverter with a Parker hydraulic motor, offers significant design and performance benefits for mining machinery and equipment applications.

The EHP System enables electro-hydrostatic actuation (EHA). In mining equipment applications, EHA is used for the mining implement (e.g. shovel, scoop) and allows the implement to be decoupled from the internal combustion engine. By decoupling the mining implement, the power draw on the engine is reduced and the engine size can be optimized, thus reducing emissions and achieving fuel savings.

The EHP PMAC motor/generator is available in a wide range of voltage configurations (24 to 800 Vdc) and four diameters (142, 210, 310 and 470 mm). With patent-pending cooling technology for optimum performance, the EHP motor has a power density up to 3.9 kW/kg. EHP motors can also couple to virtually any Parker hydraulic pump, creating significant flexibility when designing a hydraulic system.
